Recently, I was commissioned to do a painting of a farm that had been in a family for over a century. The family sent me current photos of the site, with its lovely lane and sprawling tree. They also sent old photos of the barn, which had long since fallen to ruin. Putting these images together, I was able to recreate the way the farm looked years ago—the way they remember it from their childhood. Not only will the family have the original painting, but we are also creating high-quality

giclée prints (which can look much like the original when printed on canvas) so that each family member can have a copy. They intend for the painting to become an evocative piece of family history to be passed from generation to generation. In addition to painting my own landscapes, I love creating works that have personal meaning for the viewer. I am always glad to do commissions from photos of places that are special to my clients—whether their current house, the field in which they were married, the family farm, or another scene they wish to capture and enjoy. The beauty of painting in oil is that is a very durable medium. Oil paints do not fade, they are hard to damage if treated with care, and they hold up to the test of time, so they can become valuable family heirlooms capturing a place in time for future generations. I am glad to consider your special request if you envision a scene and painting size that will work especially well in your home. Perhaps you would like one of my landscapes in a smaller or larger size; or you envision an enormous landscape painting that will bring the outdoors inside. One client commissioned a large sky with sun-lit clouds that brought back memories of a favorite sunset. Many Iowa corporations and organizations purchase my paintings for lobbies, offices, meeting rooms, and other public areas. Such paintings not only bring beauty to a place, but also show off the loveliness of our native Iowa landscape.
